Attendance to the Saints & Sinners 2004 AGM was as high as always, with the room nearly filled to capacity. Chaired by Rob Hodgetts, club members listened to the annual reports from the Chairman/Secretary & Treasurer, they then participated in the election of the new Committee Members. We welcome two new members onto the committee, Mike Lewis as Honorary Records Officer and Penny Neaverson as Honorary Child Protection Officer.
The club offers its appreciation to those committee officers standing down for all there had work over the last year, and thanks to those members who have been re-elected for another term, keep up the good work. Finally we offer a fond farewell to our long standing president Stan Heath who has retired after many years of sterling work. A big welcome goes to Derek Moule our newly elected honourable Club President.
Derek is one of our longest standing active club members, he has always been a friendly face around Saints & Sinners Bowmen, keen to offer advice to any members be they new or old. Derek is also noted for the comical and entertaining antics that he brings to the sport, providing a ray of sunshine on the coldest and wettest of days.
Well after two hours, you might have expected more than 12 arrows to have been shot, but not us, with endless fun hunting for buried arrows, we managed to stretch the entire 3 dozen arrows over 3½ hours. Our thanks goes to Derek for the valued entertainment, however the event was a Clout Shoot, not a Flight shooting. Winners of the day included Mike Lewis, Penny Neaverson, Mike Hutchinson, Rob Hodgetts and Tim Hastie. Thanks to all those who attended, Results and Photo's from the day are now available.
A new webmail/email system has been launched which is open to all club members. Members can now have their own personal Saints & Sinners email account. With this you will be able to send and receive emails with your family, friends or whoever you wish using the club name, i.e. saints-sinners.org.uk. For more details and access to the email system use the link webmail.saints-sinners.org.uk or click the icon in the top left corner of the page.
An excellent end to a successful seasons shooting, with bright sun shine all day it was clear that everyone had fun. Although perhaps a little to hot for some, it was certainly a nice change from shooting in pouring rain. With both novice and handicap shoots taking place, it was good to see all the archers both new and old mingling together. The final Results were very close with Mike Lewis and Nick Holder both breaking club records. Photos from the day can be seen in the Gallery as normal.
What do you call a group of archers that get up at the crack of dawn to attend an archery contest? Stupid perhaps? No, dedicated! Well that’s exactly what happened on Sunday. The mid-summer madness Breakfast Shoot took place and as usual was well attended. Before the shoot Ken provided us all with a hearty breakfast of sausages and bacon, with archers being likened to a condemned men eating their last meals, thanks Ken. The Warwick round shot was mostly due to the lack of mobility in some archer after such a substantial breakfast. The Results are secondary to the fun we all had, but for those who are interested they are posted in the usual place.
With what looked to be a rather breezy afternoon, and temperatures soaring to the low 30's, it was not ideal conditions to say the least. Even so everyone had high spirits and we soon got into the swing of things. The rain managed to hold off for the entire shoot, with a slight down pour just as the last few archers were leaving the field. See Snapshots from the day courtesy of Nick Holder who had to retire due to equipment failure. Final Results have now been posted, updated handicaps will follow shortly.
Apologies to all members who have been affected over the last week whilst the website has been unavailable. It would appear that our hosting company had some technical difficulties which we hope are now all resolved so we can continue with our World Wide Web broadcast.
Yet another successful turnout for our annual FITA shoot, on the morning the field was crowded with hopeful and enthusiastic archers, well several people turned out anyway. With only the occasional light shower the days shooting was quite enjoyable. Come 2pm a few more members attended for the short metric, with the rain holding off most of the afternoon. Winners of the day include Mike Lewis, Pauline Ireson, Mike Hutchinson, Chris McNeill, Adam McNeill and Bob Cole. Highlights of the day can be seen in the updated Gallery.
Well I think its fair to say that we nearly had it all, baking hot sun, gale force winds, down pours of rains, thunder, lighting and then nothing but still and calm. With conditions like these it was never expected that any club records would be broken, but there was still close competition between the members on the shooting line. The final results were Mike Lewis winning gents recurve, Pauline Ireson winning the ladies recurve, Mike Hutchinson for the gents compound, Adam McNeill in the junior recurve and Rob Hodgetts in the gents longbow. You will find the other Results and Pictures from the day on the sites updated pages.
We are now into the third week of the beginners course and there are defiantly some very promising archers within the group. All have made a remarkable improvement since the first week, with arrow groups now closer than ever. Next week is the last week so lets make that extra effort and I am sure we can get some 'all gold' ends. The Gallery has also been updated, containing pictures from the first weeks efforts.
Nearly demanding the need of a second target, the attendance of this years longbow championship was as high as its been for many a year. With 4 archers poised on the shooting line, the tension could have been cut with a arrow (but not one of theirs). The front runner Bob Cole soared into the distance and eventually after 9 dozen arrows, he succeeded in taking first place. See the other Results and Pictures from the day in the usual places.
Yet another exceptional turnout for one of our summer shoots, it was a great day and good to see some of our veteran members show their faces, even though they were able to shoot on the day. Huge thanks to Ken Merry and Rob Hodgetts for organising the barbequed food and drinks. Winners of the day were Mike Lewis in the gents recurve, Pauline Ireson in the ladies recurve, Mike Hutchinson in the gents compound and Adam McNeill in the junior recurve. See all the Results and Photos from the day on the updated pages.
There are two new sections on our website, firstly The Beginner pages where you will find details about the sport, and what you can do to get involved with it. In The Members section you will find our shooting members handicaps and classifications, the club records, and information about the different rounds with the handicap and classification tables to accompany them.
The Results for the May Day Western have now been confirmed with the correctly adjusted handicap scores. Congratulations to Roger Ireson for winning the Gents Recurve, Lesley Booth for winning Lladies Recurve, and finally Mike Hutchinson for taking the Gents Compound. Apologies once again for the delay is producing these results, we just didn't want to make any mistakes.
Well what a wonderful day, from what looked to be the signs of another wet competition, the rain managed to hold back and the day turned into a pleasant afternoon's shoot. Apologies made for not able to announce the winners of the days shooting, you will have to wait in suspense just that little bit longer. Scores and Results will be posted in due course, photo's of the days events can been seen in the Gallery.
Congratulation to Dan Brown for winning gents recurve, Nick Holder for winning gents compound, and Margaret Mansell-Gavin for winning ladies recurve. Although the National round shot with a slightly unorthodox for GNAS approval, all archers had an enjoyable mornings shoot with everyone getting a chocy Easter egg. Results of the days shoot can now be seen on The Results pages.
A big thank you goes out to all those club members who were able to attend this Aprils working party. It was nice to see so many people turn up, we had a good mornings work and were able to get a lot done. Check out the Gallery to see the captured highlights of the day. Now we can leave the duties in the capable hands of out newly appointed grounds men Chris and Mike.
Yes that's right, its only been 5 months since the decision was made for us to make our mark on the web, and now we have finally achieved it. We are now the proud owner of www.saints-sinners.org.uk, which we hope to be updating throughout the year to keep clubs members and visitors alike informed of our going's on.
With the official launch of the clubs new website nearly upon us, a decision has to be made about which domain we should use to access the site through. Enquiries are currently being about the purchase of the web address: www.saints-sinners.org.uk
At last the day has dawned, this development of the club website is now in progress. Although a little bare at the moment, we are soon hoping that the pages will be bursting with exciting information capturing the attention of club members and site visitors alike.
